چکیده

Existing centrality measures for social network analysis suggest the importance of an actor and give consideration to actor’s given structural position in a network. These existing measures suggest specific attribute of an actor (i.e., popularity, accessibility, and brokerage behavior). In this study, we propose new hybrid centrality measures (i.e., Degree-Degree, Degree-Closeness and DegreeBetweenness), by combining existing measures (i.e., degree, closeness and betweenness) with a proposition to better understand the importance of actors in a given network. Generalized set of measures are also proposed for weighted networks. Our analysis of co-authorship networks dataset suggests significant correlation of our proposed new centrality measures (especially weighted networks) than traditional centrality measures with performance of the scholars. Thus, they are useful measures which can be used instead of traditional measures to show prominence of the actors in a network.

A Combination Method of Centrality Measures and Biological Properties to Improve Detection of Protein Complexes in Weighted PPI Networks

Introduction: In protein-protein interaction networks (PPINs), a complex is a group of proteins that allows a biological process to take place. The correct identification of complexes can help better understanding of the function of cells used for therapeutic purposes, such as drug discoveries. One of the common methods for identifying complexes in the PPINs is clustering, but this study aimed ...

Structure Comparison of Binary and Weighted Niche-Overlap Graphs

In ecological networks, niche-overlap graphs are considered as complex systems. They represent the competition between two predators that share common resources. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the structural properties of these graphs considered as weighted networks and compare their measures with the ones calculated for the binary networks. To conduct this study, we select four cl...

Analysing Weighted Networks: An Approach via Maximum Flows

We present an approach for analysing weighted networks based on maximum flows between nodes and generalize to weighted networks ‘global’ measures that are well-established for binary networks, such as pathlengths, component size or betweenness centrality. This leads to a generalization of the algorithm of Girvan and Newman for community identification. The application of the weighted network me...

A New Weighted Degree Centrality Measure: The Application in an Animal Disease Epidemic

In recent years researchers have investigated a growing number of weighted heterogeneous networks, where connections are not merely binary entities, but are proportional to the intensity or capacity of the connections among the various elements. Different degree centrality measures have been proposed for this kind of networks. In this work we propose weighted degree and strength centrality meas...
